Mirror

The experience of his horse training, from loving horses to becoming a horse trainer, from a happy family to an accident lost wife, being father and mother, tired due to lonely and trouble from working, these things show his life’s experience which is kind of complexity and sometime don’t know how to do.

Mirror is a magic thing; you can use it to do some special things.  Mirror can reflex your past, now and maybe future, which reminds your past sad and happy, reminds you to understand who you are, and leads you understand yourself, what you need to do in the future.  

The relationship between house and tower: talking to yourself, there is a mirror on the surface of the building which is the same angle of the glass of living space, which means when you stay inside the house, you can view yourself in front of you with the nature surround. In contrast, in the top of the tower, you can look at the inside of the house. There are a conversation between the house and the tower. And in the top of the tower other side, a space view to the nature and farm and horses.

The path from entry to the tower shows how his feeling and experience, from happy {open space} to sad {close close}, then happy to sad again then to review all the things {from the mirror}. Connection from one space to another space is feeling mix together—down and up shows the spatial dynamic.

The glass box dining room, they can enjoy the sunshine and have activity with his daughter or friends. Tired from working or being struggle emotional feeling inside, taking a spa or shower will be a good idea. The restroom connects a big swimming pool, it feels you are in the ocean and relaxing with a cup of wine

Speed + Freedom

Based on the trainer’s character, he loves his work and wants to be free from the struggling thing about his wife. So, this design idea derived from his working relating to the speed of riding horse, and his family about unhappy thing, but luck his has a lovely daughter. He wants to be free but can’t leave his daughter due he loves her a lot.

The design from a simple box transform into complex spaces – seems lost in the spaces, which likes when he rids the horse walking slowly then faster and faster to a high, uncontrolled and crazy speed, and he will feel free and forgot the sad thing and enjoy his own space.

From the function of these two buildings, the tower which is a place for working with strong spatial dynamic, which shows the trainer’s inside of feeling -- working in a challenge and exciting job. At home being good father, play with his daughter, and have simple quiet and relaxing cosy and lovely spaces.

Relationship between two buildings: Separated working space and family spaces, but connecting in a different way. The tower like a father’s hands holds the simple and cosy house which shows his love to his daughter. Also, there is a communication between them, the inside of the house and the tower spaces

 { which father’s working places } can see each other, that it is, during father is working, he also can know the situation of his daughter.   

Horse Trainer   (Horse trainer’s house & Work space)

A horse trainer, who is 40 named John, he has been being a horse trainer about 20 years. His wife passed away due to an accident during a horse racing. He lives with his daughter who is 10 years old – she is a lovely and smart girl like her mother. John runs his own business for training young horses starting and dealing with the problem horses. Also he provides riding course. So, money for him is not a big problem. And he has a big farm.

He loves horses since when he was 7 years old. He enjoys riding his favourite black horse around the forest and nature. The feeling when he riding horse in a special action or a fast speed, which shows all he love about and exciting about that moment. He has a deep understanding of horses. He treats horses as his friends. So, one of the happy things is being with the horse. Another important thing is his daughter. He teaches her how to rid and his daughter likes horse too, so she has a little young horse as her pet or friend. They always go around outside have fun. At home, they cook together, he tells story to her about the horse. Sometimes, his friends will come over have a drink with music.

He spends almost all the time with the horse. At daytime, he trains the horse, at night time he needs to check the conditions of the horse. But recently, the horse is at the age of puberty, they become very bad motional and hard to control due to they want females. He is kind of tired, unhappy. Even feels lonely and he miss his wife too. Sometimes, he is tired to be a father and a mother, to be alone, and to be stunk in there. He hopes he can be a free man riding his black horse around the world. He wants to release all the horse back to nature as they belongs the nature instead of doing the thing what human want they to do. However, things are not always like what you want. He loves his daughter and need to run the business. Anther annoying thing is that he is every unhappy when owner control the horse in a crude way. He always tells the owner to understand the horse rather than simple control them.

He is kind of in a dilemma, because he wants to be a freeman enjoy his own life but he can’t leave his daughter, and he wants another person to share his life not lonely all the time but he can’t forget his wife which is hard to take a new one in his heart. So, he wants to share happy with his family and spent time with the horse. Also, he needs a place which beyond himself to do something he wants to do or to be alone in some reason.
